VTV is a new channel to be launched soon. VTV has already started test transmission. Today I was scrolling through the channel of Medianet, cable TV service provider in Maldives and I saw the test transmission at Channel No 55. This channel will be launched soon, I am not aware of the exact date. DhiTV was recently launched, the first private TV channel in Maldives.
VTV belongs to the richest man in Maldives, Gassim Ibrahim, owner of Villa Group and he is also a candidate for the upcoming Presidential election in Maldives. Another upcoming Television channels are Atoll TV, backed by the AAA group and SUN TV backed by the Sun Travel Group owned by Mr Ahmed Shyam who is also a member of the parliament.
I am not sure of the feasibility of so many TV local TV channels coming up as far as my knowledge, the revenue source for TV channels are advertisements and the maximum number of viewers for these channels could be the whole populate of Maldives which is around 300,000
