Vijay Mallya Buys Gandhiji’s Items in Auction

by Kishore on March 6, 2009

image Dr Vijay Mallya, Indian businessman, Chairman of UB Group, Kingfisher Airlines has purchased the Gandhiji’s personal belongings which was sold in an Auction in New York. Hopefully Dr Mallya will donate these items to the Indian Government. He was represented by Tony Bedi, who quoted the highest price of US$1.8 million (INR 9 crores). The second highest bid was US$ 1.75 million which was quoted online. Earlier in 2004 Dr Vijay Mallya had rescued the sword of Tipu Sultan in an auction.

Its good to hear that the belongings of Bapu will come back to India and there are Indians who give high value for such memorabilia.

It is quiet an awkward position for any Indian to buy his own Indian belongings. Bapu, was an Indian freedom fighter. He is respected as the father of ‘our’ nation, which is quite a justification for his belongings being the prior right of an Indian. His belongings are the Indian government’s property which should be legally and gracefully handed to us. Any crass commercial demands over his belongings is flabbergasting. Any foreign intervention or right over his belongings is irrelevant. What Mr Kingfisher, Vijay Malaya has done is an ode to Bapu. I commend him over returning us back what predominantly belongs to us. Cheers!

Tragedy: Bapu, who never touched wine. Liquor baron purchased Gandhiji’s belongings.

About the heading: “Gandhi” sounds rough, must be “Gandhiji”.

This is irony…

Bapu hated Liquor and Liquor barons buys the Pride of all indians..

Kudos Dr mallaya.. may you dwell in this glory and may this act bring more to you…

I hope these Bapu belongings do not face the same fate a Tipu’s Sword.

God Bless you Dr. Mallya

Prasanth – Hopefully this time he donates it to the Government of India, rather than keeping in his personal collection
