hi Dr Divya, there are lots of Indian Doctors working here. Usually the employer takes care of the accomodation. I am working in Maldives for the past 6 years now. I don’t feel its tough to work here. If you get a good package, you should go ahead.

how can we check the authenticity of the workpermit before leaving for maldives.

You need to talk to the original employer, get an appointment letter, don’t rely on any recruiting agents. Get the copy of the contract from the employer directly

Dear Doctors,

Its really ridiculous.i worked in maldives. No freedom.I worked there for 1 year. Now at present 2009 doctors salary has been cut and there is ongoing strike. our doctors are suffering in the new government. But nurses salary has been rised twise i.e 55000 rs per monthe.whereas doctor will be getting 65000rs.my advice go and have a try and u will know the realty or just forget and try for some other civilised country.Accomodation is very bad.No respect and narcotics are more.u cant leave the island, just like u r working in a jail.sorry if anybody got hurt, but bilieve me this is the truth.

Dr R.Lingam June 12, 2009 at 10:33 am

i am working in Maldives as a doctor.Working conditions are very bad.People here dont have respects for doctors The threaten you with physical assaults if you dont treat patients according to their requirement . Even administration treats doctors badly. There is no freedom to work .There are lot of restrictions while treating patients.Money offered is also not much, seeing the high cost of living in this country.Professionly there is nothing to achieve here..So many things are mentioned in the contract just to fool you.People are not honest in their dealings. So its better to work somewhere else rather than wasting time here.

Dr Lingam – Thanks for the information, will be good for people who pay huge money to get a job in Maldives, Recently, I met a Doctor, who was offered a Job with work permit for IGMH and when he came here he was told to go some far away island. He payed US$ 1500 to an agent to get this job and he has lost all the money. I don’t understand why these people tell the job seekers to go through agencies who take huge money tempting them giving false information

i am presently serving here in Maldives under MOH .This place is not good at all for doctors particularly specialist .If you are a upright perso0n not ready to suffer humiliation ,then this place is not for you .Except for IGMh where you might get an oppertunity to practice your speciality ,other places are just bullshit .U will forget your all skill & you will be unsuitable to work anywhere else You will be working under a Hospital Manager who is either a 8th standard pass or a health worker who will be controlling you & teaching you medicines. If you dont lick his boots ,he willyou harras you like anything.MOH attitude in any dispute will be either indifferent or it will support hospital management only.Private agents in India dont give correct picture of this country,They just fool you.So think twice before you come here.
