twitter and shashi tharoor

Twitter, Shashi Tharoor, Cattle class and Austerity are most heard words these days. Among the four, Shashi Tharoor is the most targeted word or figure in the current Indian political scenario.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging site which enables to send and receive short messages (up to 140 characters) between its users. By using Twitter, Shashi Tharoor was directly communicating with the public and creating a good rapport with them. While Twittering with one of his followers, Kanchan Gupta, the Pioneer Columnist, the “Cattle class” came up and became a hurricane across the country. The Tweets goes like:

“Tell us Minister, next time you travel to Kerala, will it be cattle class?”

“absolutely, in cattle class out of solidarity with our holy cows”.

Can anyone say that the origin of the “cattle class” usage is straightly from Shashi Tharoor for which he has apologized (clarified) in his latest tweets. Here the cattle class refers to the economy class and many were truly offended by its reference since thousands of Indians travel in economy class. One thing is very sure that he has been targeted from the beginning and now in the guise of austerity and tweets.

Being a writer, he never knew that he should have been more aware of the usage of words in India since each word matters a lot. Our system is very strange where pleasant lies are accepted rather than unpleasant truths.
