I am sure most of the bloggers do posts on advance and schedule their posts for future dates, so that the blog has consistent new posts for regular readers. You can set the publish date and time to a future time and the post goes live when the set time is reached. I was thinking of adding a small widget to display future posts on my blog sidebar. I wrote a simple code for this which displays the nearest 10 posts title with the time to when the posts will go live.

You can modify the code according to your need. If you want to display posts only from some specific category, modify the query accordingly by adding &cat=. You can also modify the number of posts by changing the value of &showposts.

What could be the use of this Widget?

• You can tell your visitors that you have some posts which are going to be published and give a brief idea of the post.
• They can come back and read the post on that particular date
• You show that you have planned your future posts.
• Again something different from others blogs

Corpvox is the January one. It is a very clean and simple theme, ideal for someone wanting to have a minimum number of elements on his blog.

If you are using any theme like Revolution Themes for Wordpress  which needs to use thumbnail image information in custom field, you can understand that you need to update the image details after you upload the image. I use windows live writer to post on my blogs and its bugging for me to always save the posts as draft and then update the thumbnail custom field. I am using an hack where I never bother about updating the thumbnail values. Calling this function when the page loads for the first time updates the thumbnail meta_post value which can be updated using add_post_meta function.

You can add this function to your functions.php file in your theme folder.

Before you do this make sure that you have set the thumbnail size in the Media settings. I am using this hack on this blog

I just finished redesigning my blog with a new revolution theme. The name of this theme is church wordpress theme from Revolution authored by Brian Gardner. You can find some good collection of themes there.

Before changing your theme you need to note down some important things which you will need to update with your new theme.

Theme Modification – You need to check if you have done any custom modifications to your theme, if so, you will have to do the same with new theme.

Google AdManager - I use Google AdManager for serving ads, so I had to get all the Javascripts which I had placed in the header file to be copied to the new themes header file.

One major change I have done is I have transferred all my posts in the Technology Blog to this blog as I am no longer going to maintain that domain. I have used a 301 redirect to this domain. What I did was I exported all the posts from that blog using the wordpress export option from the tools menu in the admin panel and imported the same including the images to this blog. I was using the same post slug style so I do not have any problem with the URL. I changed the .htaccess file to the follow of my technology blog which I am  no longer using and redirecting all the visitors including the search engines by indicating a 301 permanent redirect

I liked the content gallery plugin which you can see on the top of the home page of this blog which displays the assinged image from the assigned category post. If you would like to have this plugin for your blog, you can download it here

If you have a blog which you would like to present like a news website, then you should have a look at this theme which is from Woothemes. Check the theme named Gazette which somewhat similar to the CNN website. I liked this theme very much. You have the option to choose different styles and the theme looks to be optimized. Its very important that you have a professional theme for your blog to maintain the standard of your blog. I am not saying that free themes are bad, but professional themes do have some difference and it really pays for the money your spent to buy it.

Woothemes has a good collection of well optimized themes. I am using the free theme called typebase for this blog and VibrantCMS for my personal blog. You can join the Woothemes club and get all the themes and updates. Its really worth trying.
