The problem related to duplicate URL’s with regard to search engines has been sorted out. Mattcutts has posted on his blog about this new feature which is valid for most of the top search engines like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft will be validating this tag. You have to use this tag inside the tag of your website or blog. For example if you check the source of the page, you will find the canonical tag like this

Best Traffic Source Are Search Engines

If you have a blog or a website, the biggest concern should be about the traffic to your blog or website after having impressive posts. Getting traffic is not that easy, but with good content, it becomes achievable. You need to do some work to get your blog traffic growing and with time it will happen. I have my blog with most of the traffic coming from Google, to be frank, I have never tried much to get more traffic or buying backlinks or any blackhat SEO methods. I have been following some SEO Tips which has resulted good for me. Your blog earning will always depend on the traffic of your blog, just not traffic but the quality of the traffic.

There are different ways a visitor may come to your blog or website like

Search engines : Search engines like Google, Yahoo, Live are the best source of traffic for free. You need to rank well for potential keywords to get consistent traffic from search engines.
Social media networking sites : Social Media Sites like Digg, Twitter, StumbleUpon, FaceBook are sources which can shoot up your traffic.
Email link : A visitor can send your blog post URL to his friend to visit or read your post if its impressive.
Direct traffic : Some loyal visitors who already know your blog URL may come to your blog by keying in your blog URL.
News letters : Your news letter subscribers will come to your blog reading your newsletters
Other blogs or website linked to your blog or we can call backlinks
Banners or Advertisements : You can get traffic from different advertisements or banners.
RSS Feeds : Feeds are very popular these days. Many read news or blog posts using different feed aggregators which are very easy to manage and read

As far as a webmaster or a blogger is concerned, the best traffic source is which gives some benefit to the blog or website. The quality of traffic can be determined by the following factors

Time spent on the website
Bounce rate
Repeated visiting
Bookmarking
Subscribing to newsletters
Subscribing to RSS feeds
Post a backlink to the webpage or the blog
Submitting the post to Social Media Sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Twitter, etc
Sales or conversion if you have some products to be sold
Ad revenue

Now coming to the topic of this post, the best source of traffic should be a source which gives you conversions, subscribers, loyal readers, backlinks, sales, Ad revenue etc.

In my opinion the best source of traffic should be Search engines for the following reasons

Consistent Traffic – If you have posts which lists on top of Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) then you will surely get tons of traffic if the key phrase or the keywords are popular or if its up in trends.

Less Bounce Rate – The bounce rate for the traffic coming from search engines are very low, reason being the visitor comes to your blog or web page searching for something through a search engine and gets what he was looking for.

Length or Depth of a visit – Usually traffic coming from search engines do spend lot of time on your blog visiting related posts or posts from the same category.

New Visitors – Usually the traffic from search engines will be new visitors and if you have a good blog or impressive posts, you get new visitors converted to loyal visitors or subscribers

Back Links- New visitors or search engine visitors could generate more back links or social media bookmarking. If you blog has your social networking links like Twitter, Digg, facebook or stumbleupon, you have high chances to get more followers or friends which can improve your presence on the World Wide Web.

To conclude, I would like to say looking into my experience, search engine traffic and the best source of traffic and for me 85% of my traffic from search engines. I have found the bounce rate is very low compared to the traffic from social media traffic. Social media sites like Digg or Stumbleupon can give your spikes of traffic but the Ad revenue or conversions are comparatively low. To get more traffic from search engines like Google you need to have great content and a Search engine optimized blog.

Experience a new search by Cuil

I was just playing with Cuil. I don’t think this a just launched search engine, but its my first visit to this site.

I just searched for my name, but could not get any pages, but on Google, I get a good number of pages and its 100% relevant results. The search for my name shows this page

But this search engine has something with different. You get some relevant or related search results.

But my next search showed me this error page

I tried few more times, but the same message, the server seams to be overloaded. That’s the biggest different with Google. They have the best hardware in the world and Google can handle millions of searches simultaneously.

Google Adsense New Improved Custom Search for better earnings

Google Adsense has an option for earning from the search results other than banners and text links. I am not sure how many of us use it and what is the potential of earning from the Google Adsense search. To be frank, I was using this only on one of my blog and I did not get much revenue from this. Today I received an email from Google Adsense support team encouraging the use of the Search feature.

There are many new features that they have added and I feel that everybody should try this.

Searching without leaving your website
Improved indexing of your pages
You can add up all your network sites to be searched for the results
You can refine the searches with keywords
You can select the page where the search results to be shown
You can select the ad location where the Google Adsense results to be shown

You should NOT

Add predefined words in the search box
you should not create links to lead to search results
You should not use any automated search quires to show results

Guruji – The Indian Search Engine

Few months back I was going through the Indian search engine Guruji, and tried to submit one of my site, an Online Encyclopedia. When I clicked on the submit site button, I got a form which clearly explains that they are only accepting Indian sites and mine was a clear Indian site with .in

After submission I got an email from Guruji

We are sorry to inform you that our algorithm could not accept your site submission for – http://www.freepedia.in

This may have happened due to our algorithm detecting one or more of the following about your website –

The website is non Indian (At this point of time we are restricting ourselves to Indian websites)

The website is a spam

During the crawl the website could not be accessed by our crawler

However, if you feel that your website should not qualify under any of the above conditions, write to us at support@guruji.com with the subject line as “Website Exclusion” and we will look into the matter.

I do not feel the mentioned reasons are valid as this is a Indian site http://freepedia.in and not a spam. Its a true encyclopedia website by the Indians for the Indians

A few days later I got an email from them stating that my site has been included. Guruji is still at an inception stage. The site is developed by a team of IIT students from India. May be they will prove to a future Larry Page or Sergy Bin. They are doing great and recently I was searching for my sites at Guruji and found most of my pages indexed.

Wishing them all the best for the future and we should be proud of this.

Google Inc Vs Wikimedia (Wikia)

Google and Wikia are soon going to be rivals. We find wikipedia dominating most of the top search queires on Google, will it have some effect soon? Need to wait and see.

Knol (Google’s new encyclopedia)

The news is that very soon Google is going to launch a Wikipedia rival. The Encyclopedia from Google is to be known as Knol as short name for Knowledge. This will again be a user contribution, but not same as Wikipedia. Knol will have users who can create pages and will have an option to put Advertisements on their pages and share the revenue. This will be an extra advantage to attract authors and good for professional writers. Like Wikipedia, every user will not be able to edit the pages, but can write reviews and comments. Knol will be connected to Google search engine. There was an a post about Knol at the Official Google Blog related to Knol

Wikiasari (New Search Engine From Wikipedia)

Wikiasari is not really associated with Wikimedia Foundation which is a non-profit organization, but it is a project of Wikia which is a profit making company. Jimmy Wales is the man behind Wikipedia and he is also involved in Wikia.

Wikia results will be a combination of machine and human work for the results and will be a competitor for Google. Google results are the best till now, thats what I feel, but there are some spammers who are successful in manipulating the results. Anyway we will need to wait till the launch of the two, which is expected very soon
