If you are planning to by a Pocket PC phone, or PDA, then you can for just Rs 10,000. The phone will have features like internet, Push Mail, Calendar, task, same like a blackberry. The phone is to launched by Reliance communications. The phone is branded as RCom.

A US based company has designed the phone and its manufactured in China. Business people will be using PDA , but I feel that its something which everybody can use and once you are used to using pocket PC, then its very difficult to switch to a ordinary phone. In India very less people are using such kind of phones. The success of the product will really depend on the quality and efficiency of the phone. I have been using Windows mobile for the past 5 years and I have used about 6 models. The latest one is HTC Tytn II which is the best I have used which has an excellent processor and memory. I am not aware of the configuration of the phone what RCom is going to market, but if its low configuration then the user will face problems like getting stuck and some memory problems.

I have been using mobile phones for the past 10 years and have understood and faced the advantages and disadvantages of using a mobile phone. Mobile phones are used by almost everybody these days. When you meet a new person or when you have a new friend, one the information that you take from that person is his / her mobile phone number.

Using mobile phones has lots of advantages and disadvantages and most you will be aware of that. Earlier days, when we are out of home or office, we need to search for a public telephone booth to make a phone call, but now, just pick up your mobile phone and dial. I am trying to list the Pros and cons of using a mobile phone in this post.

Advantages of using a mobile phone

Always connected

You are always connected, anybody who knows your mobile number can contact you. If you are travelling out of your territory or to another country, you can use the roaming facility to be connected anywhere and all the time. You can can use features like Text messaging to send messages, receive messages, send greetings, MMS for sending pictures, get information like news, flight timings and many more features

Internet Access

Now most of the mobile phone service providers has GPRS or EDGE or 3G enabled network. You can using internet anytime and anywhere. If you need to check your mail, you can do that when you are travelling or out of your office. You can reply to important messages or emails from your mobile phone itself. Features like Microsoft Exchange and Blackberry are really great. When you receive an email at your server, you get it pushed to your mobile phone. Latest PDA’s, or iPhone are not just mobile phones, you even term it as Mobile Office. I get all my mails pushed to my HTC TyTN II. Even if I am travelling, I am always aware of the important messages and I can respond quickly with out entering my office. I use remote desktop with my Pocket PC using wifi connections, through which I can access all my office desktop computers from anywhere in the World. There is an excellent service called Logmein, which is something I have been using for long time. Other excellent feature of mobile internet is that you can use internet sharing to using internet on your laptop while you are travelling. Just connect your PDA or pocket pc or your mobile phone with GPRS or EDGE or 3G internet and use it on your laptop. Other features like bluetooth, infrared are something very much I use. I do post articles using my mobile phone which is something I really need badly.

Other features like calendars, contacts, task, reminders are really something which cannot be missed. Once you use these kind of features, it will be very difficult to mange your day without a mobile phone.

Disadvantages of using a Mobile Phone

Always Connected

I mentioned this as an advantage above, but that’s a big disadvantage too. You are always connected to the world, you are always responsible for answering a phone call or if you are using a Blackberry or a Windows Mobile 5.0, you get emails which you need to respond instantly because your company or your clients expects this from you. You may not really understand the ill side of this, but your family or kids will feel this much more. If you are on a vacation and you are roaming, your office expects you to reply to the emails or the phone calls that you receive on your mobile. You lose your privacy, your freedom to be free from your daily routine work when you are connected.

Health Hazard

Using mobile phones for long time are definitely bad for health. The radiation caused by Mobile phones are of concern and experts believe that its bad for health.

Using mobile phones are very important in today’s world, but we need to make sure that we get enough freedom and time to spend with our family and make sure we don’t overuse to spoil our health

Google has announced the release of new Gmail for Mobile 2.0.  According the release note, the new Gmail is much faster, can compose mails and read mails even if you lose the internet connection.

Gmail for mobile 2.0, designed to be faster and more reliable in low signal areas and to even support basic offline access on phones like the Nokia N95, Sony Ericsson W910i, and BlackBerry Curve.

G1, the Google Phone is one of the hot topics in technology news. I was going through different blogs and news about Google Phone and just thought of scrapping the pros and cons or the first views of experts who had a chance of getting the look and feel of the new Google Phone. Google phone runs on Android the OS which is open source developed by Google Code

Handset for Google Phone is from HTC which is one of the largest manufacturers of high end PDA’s or pocket pc. The handset is something which is not really of everybody’s taste as it differs from person to person. There will more and more companies using the Google Software for their phones soon which will enable the consumers to select the model of their choice.

Limitations of G1

Google’s intention is to get more people online , using search and advertising from which they really make money. Google has kept Android as open source which means that you can use the software for free and write or modify new applications and use.

G1 is being branded as iPhone killer, but we need to wait and see. G1 is able to download music from Amazon which results in the availability of about 6 million tracks of music on the touch of a button. One of the great features of Google Phone is that it allows you to scan any barcode on a product, and then instantly compare prices to other shops and websites, so you always know whether or not you can get a better deal. Probably won’t get much use but still a nice add-on. One feature that G1 lacks when you compare with iPhone is the multidirectional touch. Price is well matched with iPhone, but again depends on the service provider and the countries. iPhone in United states is around US$200, but when I checked with Airtel in India, the price comes to around US$700, which is not worth as far as I am concerned. I have been using PDA’s for the past 5 years and for me a mobile phone is not just an instrument to make phone calls. I use it as a camera, blogging tool, check my emails, browse the Internet, GPS, notepad, music player, video player, for chatting, and many uses.

I travel a lot and really do not get time to sit and do posts. I do post when I am travelling, but I was thinking of some tool that I can use to post small posts with pictures. For example suppose I am attending a function and can do a post on my blog during the function with some images. Mobile blogging is possible by sending emails to the email Id that you can set up in the Wordpress settings. There are some restrictions and bugs in this. I tried to do a post with an image, but the post was messed up.

I got an excellent tool which helps me in posting while I am on the road. This post on Cars in Maldives was done while I was on the road. The post has an image which I took using my mobile camera and it took just less than a minute to post and publish this.

The set is simple, you can find the instruction for set up at the site. Some things which could be added are like video posting. I have done a few posts in in Mobile blogging, which you can check. The posts are saved as scheduled post and gets posted within a minute. You make sure that the time zone in your mobile and the time zone in your wordpress settings are same. If you want to delay the posts, you can change the time zone of your wordpress settings.

iPhone will be available to Indian users through Vodafone and Airtel. Airtel has already announced the launch on August 22nd 2008. With new iPhone 3G the users will be able to use the networking with twice the speed as it is now and the GPS facility.
