I had been using Hotmail when I started using Internet and emails, but now I use Microsoft Push as I need to reply to my emails while I am travelling. After the launch of GMail, most of the Internet users switched to Google’s email service, which is with real difference.

Hotmail has announced that Hotmail will be more fast and will be having better features soon. They say that it will be 70% faster and will be more secure, less spam and better virus protection. These are some features which an email user expects. The user interface will be much better, like the Microsoft outlook, you will be able to read the email without opening it or loading a new page. New themes will be available to change the looks according to your taste. Again looking into the usability part, you will be able to get the contact help as you start typing the email address at the To text box. Other features will be sending instant messages right from Hotmail and increased storage space.

Changing email ID’s are pain, so I am not sure how this will help in increasing the number of users of Hotmail.

Live Mesh is a new service from Microsoft. You can login using your windows live login details and start uploading files to Live Desktop. You can access these files from any computer. You need to all the devices to the Live Mesh and synchronize the folders. You can connect and manage all the devices online. Right now Mobile and MAC are not available, but soon it will be coming up.

I am sure some of you have faced this problem of entering a number like “023423423” in an excel sheet and it will automatically change to “23423423”. The zero goes of automatically. What to be done? In fact the cell takes this as number and removes the zero prefix. So you need to tell the cell that its not number but a text.

First you need to edit the cell properties, but pressing the ctrl + 1 key and in the number tab, select text

Click ok and you will find that the number is the same that you have typed

Uploading Videos From Windows Live Writer

This is a new feature where you can upload video directly from windows live writer. You need to go to Insert Video link which you can find on the right sidebar and in the tab, select from file and then you will be asked to login to your windows live account. Just put the file to upload and continue working on the post. The video upload goes on.

Image Cropping – This was something which I was badly looking for. You can directly crop an image from Windows Live Writer and you do not need an image editor. Earlier I used Adobe Photo shop for this job, but now, I just insert and image and then use this feature to remove the unwanted part of the image.

Other features include, addition of new borders, Auto-Linking Feature, Inserting links from previous posts, word count, a new search box to search categories, which is really helpful.

I am sure that there are lots of bloggers who use this tool for their blog posting and regular updates like this really helps. I have been using windows live writer for posting my blog entries for some time and always wait for some updates and features.

I have just upgraded my windows live installation which has some very useful changes and I had been looking for these especially the image croping tool and the auto linking.

Now you just need to add the links to the glossary and when ever you type a word which is in the Glossary, it will be linked automatically.

Some of the new features that I have noticed :-

• Crop tool added
• Border styles with reflection is something new for the Windows Live Writer

Now you see a new check box where you can enable auto linking for that term

Now I have added some screenshots to this post without using any image editor. For example the above image of the link inserting form, I just took a screenshot of the screen and pasted on this post, then used the crop tool to crop to this size.

So upgrade your Live writer now if you are using it already or just download live writer from writer zone

Recently I was trying to do blog posts using Microsoft Word. This is an excellent tool. You can configure your blog settings into the Microsoft word and create your posts with all the formatting available with Microsoft word. Once you complete it just click publish and it’s done. You can insert picture, format it and lots of stuffs that can be done. I am posting this using Microsoft Word.

To start off, open Microsoft word and click File New and select Blog. You can select the account if you have multiple accounts configured. You can even categorize your post by selecting the button, select category.

Type in the text, we have spell check to take care of your spellings, Insert pictures, format it, adjust the size and when you have completed, just click the Publish button and its done. Open the site and see, how its. The formatting is exactly the same what we have done.

There could me many loopholes in this system, but I am not yet in a position to come up with that. I will update this post and let you know

Update:

1. I could find one problem is when select a category which already exists, it work fine, but when we try to create a new category and add it, it goes to the default category
2. You can open all your existing posts and edit it very easily. Just click on the open existing button on the toolbar, you will get the list of posts that you have done. Just select the post and start editing and you can publish it after you have done. This makes editing so simple
3. I find a problem, how do we assign tags? Other problem I have seen is to select multiple categories
4. Does it pings? Needs to check this out? Usually my blog posts are indexed by Google within 10-15 minutes of post time.
