Should Amitabh Bachchan accept the honor from Australian University

Amitabh Bachchan has been conferred with Honorary Doctorate from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. After the recent attacks on the Indian students in Australia, he is in a dilemma whether to accept the honor. He is very upset with the racist attack on the innocent Indian students studying in different universities in Australia. Amitji on his blog has asked his readers to help him decide to take a decision. There were above 500 comments on this post when I visited just now and the response were mixed, some say yes he should accept as its not the fault of the entire country, but he should show his protest by mentioning this in his speech at the University. Some says he should not.

My opinion – Yes he should accept it as I was watching this topic closely during these days. Some people who had studied in Australia says that they did not find anything like this in the past and it was a very safe country promoting a multicultural and multilingual society. These kind of attacks were started recently by some elements. Its not something which every Indian has to face or every Australian treats Indian badly. There are good and bad people everywhere in this world. Even India has people who brings shame to us which doesn’t mean all the Indians are same. So I feel Mr Bachchan should accept this aware and use the opportunity to address the world and make it very clear that we Indians are very much un-happy with such acts. We have about 90,000 Indian students studying in Australia and its a big revenue for them. We Indians should be given the respect we deserve.

NO he should not accept the honour. I say this because he should show deference to the twoin issues of Indians attacked in Australia and Australians attacked in India.

Amitabh Bachchan has decided to decline the honor by the Australian University. I feel he has done the right thing showing his support to the students in Australia.

The honour was from an academic institution and not from the Government of Australia. Was it from Government of Australia, his approrach was right. Any one guess who might be the people suggesting his name for this honour? I guess that since QUT has the largest number of students from Indian sub continent, Indian students and communities might have suggested his name for this honour and university might have followed it ? I don’t have full information but only my judgment. I may be wrong.

No Mr.Bachchan shouldnt receive any award but he should be diplomatic, the way he was and he did the right thing saying that he is ashamed of such an act with the indian citizens. Common indians, dont you know this racism should end, the indian students and govt gives so much weath to australian govt and govt doesnt even protect the students, its a shame!

No sir Mr Amitabh Bachchan should not at all accept th honour which he is going to receive from the university of queensland as a matter of fact he should he should raise a voice, on behalf of all the Indians and all those parents of the students who have been beaten up by the Australians, asking the Govt. of Australia to take action against the guilty……….Jai Hind!
