Saving Gandhi’s Legacy

by Kishore on March 5, 2009

image Commercializing Mahathma Gandhi’s personal belonging is something against his concept or wish. “He was never in favour of this kind of commercialism…and I think if we become so possessive about Mahatma Gandhi he would only be pained," said Varsha Das, director of the National Gandhi Museum in New Delhi. The Government of India has instructed the embassy in Washington and Consulate General in New York to do everything that is required through the bidding process or otherwise to acquire the father of the nation’s personal assets for the country.

James Otis from California, who is currently in possession of the Gandhiji’s personal belongings has placed some conditions to donate to India. He wants India to agree either to substantially increase the amount spent on healthcare for the poor or to support educational events to promote Gandhian non-violent resistance in 78 countries. He wants India to shift priorities from Military spending to Healthcare and for kids like shown in Slumdog Millionaire.
