Elections for the next President of Maldives will is the most discussed topic among the citizens of Maldives because this is the first multi-partly elections in the history of Maldives. According to the new constitution the elections should be held before October 10th 2008. There are about 8 contestants right now and the for a person to win will need to bag minimum 50% of the votes. In case no body is getting 50% of votes then there will be another election where only two candidates will be there.
The contestants for the Presidential elections in Maldives are
- President Gayoom
- Mohamed Nasheed
- Anni from MDP
- Ibrahim Ismail
- Ibra from LP
- Independents former attorney general Dr. Hassan Saeed,
- Idham Muiz, Gasim Ibrahim from JP, former finance minister and a multibillionare, Villa
- Umar Naseer from IDP
The dates for the elections are not yet announced. All the candidates are doing their best in the campaigns. Travelling to different islands, organizing meetings, lots of activities going on. Ramadhan month is coming from the 1st of September and hopefully very soon we will be knowing the date of elections in Maldives.
