New Delhi, May 30: Concerned over cases of female foeticide, Union minister for women and child development Krishna Tirath on Saturday said she will rectify any lacuna in the laws to check the menace.

“There are a number of legislations to curb the practice. The moment I find there is a lacuna, I will rectify it. However, education is the best solution to address this issue,” Ms Tirath told reporters after assuming the charge of the ministry.

The lone woman MP from Delhi, Ms Tirath (54) said several steps should be taken for development of women and children, who constitute 75 per cent of the total population.

She said if there was any shortcoming in laws pertaining to this section of the society, she would try to get it rectified through amendments in the existing laws.

Ms Tirath said she will also address the issue of alleged harassment of children in reality shows.

Noting that a number of issues related to women and children are linked with other ministries, Ms Tirath said she would hold discussions with departments concerned to sort out various issues. —PTI
