PV Narasimha Rao was born on 28 June, 1921 in Vangara, Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh, India. He is a agriculturist, lawyer and a Freedom Fighter. He served as a member of legislative assembly from 1957 – 1977. He served many posts in this period and served as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1971- 1973. He was elected for Lok Sabha many times. After being elected the 9th time for Lok Sabha, he was made the Prime Minister of India in June 1991 and served in the post till May 10 1996.
He was elected for the 10th time in LokSabha in the by elections held on 16 November 1991. He has written many books namely Sahastra Phan, Insider and also translated many Telugu Novels to Hindi of which one of them is Viswanatha Satyannarayana’s Veyi Padagalu.
Under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi , he worked in several cabinet posts between 1980-89 including foreign affairs and defence minister. Indira Gandhi in1980, the Prime Minister of India made him the minister of External Affairs. She moved him to the Ministry of Defence at the end of 1982, and then made him the Minister of Home Affairs. Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister after Indira Gandhi’s death in 1985. PV Narasimha Rao was moved to the ministries of education and human resources development in 1985 by Rajiv Gandhi, and brought him back to the external affairs group in 1987. PV Narasimha Rao was chosen to lead the Congress party after Rajiv Gandhi’s murder in 1991, and became Prime Minister when Congress won the elections that year. After the Prime Minister’s tenure in 1997 he was accused of bribery. The court found him guilty in September 2000 of bribing four MPs for voting in favour of his government in July 1993.
In complete, in his span as foreign, defence and prime minister, he handled his posts with political insight and skill. He was swift to take hold of the changing political situation at the international field and was unbeaten in safe guarding India’s various welfare.
