I have been analyzing my blog traffic using different tools like Google Analytics, Woopra, etc to track the details of my blog visitors. I have found that more than 90% of my visitors are new visitors. How does these new visitors end up reaching my blog? More than 75% are from search engines about 10% from other referring sites who have linked to my blog pages.
Let me tell you one thing that the visitors from search engines are the best source of your traffic. Reason being that they have come to your blog searching for something what you have and did not know about that. The search engine has given you a new visitor who came to your blog accidently and could be your regular visitor, click on your ads, subscribe to your blog or even link your blog. All these actions could help you monetizing your blog.
Coming to the topic of this post, do the returning visitor help you in making money or a new visitor. Let me first explain who is a new visitor and who is a returning visitor. A new visitor is someone who has never visited your blog and a returning visitor is someone who has already visited your blog at least once according to your traffic analyzing software which you use to track your visitors. I have seen that different analysis tools provide different reports depending on the algorithm they use but by and large the results are somewhat near each other.
My experience says that regular visitors makes you less money if you are using PPC programs like Google Adsense or Bidvertizer. They know that these are advertisements and if the visitor himself is using Google Adsense, then never expect him to click on any ads as he is very much concerned about clicking on Google Ads, even though its a different blog or that blog does not belong to him.
New visitors has more chances of clicking on your ads, subscribing to your news letters and more. I am not saying that you do not have any advantages of returning visitors or in other words loyal visitors. They do contribute to your blog growth by giving your traffic, commenting on your blog and even referring your blog to their friends.
To conclude, new visitors and returning visitors has their own importance and both add value to your blog traffic and income. Getting traffic from search engines give the chances of getting more new visitors
