Maintaining a blog is something like a personal journal or a dairy which is read and commented by your readers or a visitor. Blogs are very powerful these days and I personally feel that it should be used with utmost care and never be used to insult others or hurt other feelings. You should maintain some decipline like using fair language, etc.
Bloggers play a big role these days and blogs are getting more popular than static websites. Recently Darren had written about engaging readers on personal blog which made to write this post. Every business should have a business blog and he recommends to go more personal and offtopic in the blog. I do agree with him and I have found many interesting blogs of this kind.
Advantage of maintaing a blog is that you can express your views to the world. As soon as you do a post, the search engines crawls and indexes your blog post and lists it during searches. You get visitors instantly and also you get comments from great people too. I want to tell you about the power of blog by this example. I use Windows Live Writer to do my blog posts and one fine day I got some error and I was unable to use the software. I did a post on the Windows Live Writer Error and belive me in hours I got a reply from Brandon who is a Microsoft person working on Windows Live Writer and he solved my problem. He communicated with me and I emailed him the details he wanted. He send me the procedure to sort out the error and I got my problem solved in just 4 hours. I did not contact anybody in Microsoft, but I got a response from a responsible gentleman from the Windows Live writer team and got the issue resolved. There are many instance that makes me say that blogging is a very powerful tool these days. I get tons of emails requesting for information and giving me information. I get lots of comments, some positive and some negative. You can get close to your readers by giving a personal touch to your posts, replying to comments individually (Use nested / threaded comments in WordPress). You should spend time reading all your blog comments and reply to all the comments that needs a reply. Sharing your personal experience on your blog is good, but you should try to keep it to a limit so that it does not become too personal. When you write about something, you can write about the experiences that you have in that particular topic, which gives more touch to the post.
What are the advantages of being Personal to your readers
There are some advantages of being personal in your blog. You get more closer to your readers and you can even build business relation with them. Your reader base will grow and you have chances of getting into the blogroll of your blog readers, getting your posts linked, referred, shared, digged, tweeted, etc.
Readers tend to comment more when you write more about your experience and may ask you more about your experience of things to clarify their doubts. They may even ask about the points that you may have missed to mention on that particular topic. Getting more comments on a post shows interests in your post by others.
