Directory submissions – Advantages and Benefits

by lechu on April 6, 2008

Once you have your blog ready, enriched with contents, optimised for search engines, enhanced the blog look by a professional theme, you need to look for traffic. Unless you have traffic, there is no point in spending your time and writing posts and reading it yourself. You need others to read your posts, comment on your posts, subscribe to your posts. One of the accepted method to boost the visibility of your blog / website is to submit your blog to different directories. There are many free directories like Google Directory or Dmoz and some are paid ones like Yahoo Directory.

Why do you need to submit your site to different directories?

image When you have a new site, you need to first indexed by Google or other search engines. The best way to get indexed is get some links from sites which are already indexed. Submitting your site to which has high ranking will surely increase your sites visibility as well as the Pagerank also gets better. But getting your site approved for listing is not that easy. There are many criteria’s which needs to be met for getting listed in Directories like Dmoz. Other biggest advantage of submitting sites which do not ask to link back is that you get one way linking which is very much useful for search engine ranking and getting your site listed in Search engine SERP’s.

Other advantage is the Traffic that you get from these directory links which is really accountable. There are many websites offering services for submitting your sites in multiple directories, but I have never tried it. For this you need to do some payment, you can try if you are interested, but I would advice to submit your sites manually in selected Directories.

Some of the other advantage / benefits of Directory Submissions are :-

  • Increased visits by Search engine bots
  • Keyword targeting
  • Brand building
  • Relevant Link Building
  • Link Popularity
  • Quick Indexing by search engines

I would recommend you to submit your blog to different web directories and preferably free one’s. If you have an Indian site, you can submit to my Free Indian Web Directory.
