HTC is one of the top manufacturer of Windows Mobile handsets. I have been using HTC Tytn II before I got my iPhone. HTC handsets are excellent and they are well experienced in making good Handheld devices.

The specifications looks impressive, which includes a ROM of 256MB, RAM of 128MB and processor of TI’s OMAP™ 850, 201 MHz. HTC Touch Viva has a camera of 2 megapixels and Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity.

I have to used this product and don’t know about the Touch Flo of this device. According to the manufacturer

The touch experience of iPhone is something very different and I am not aware of the touch flo feature of this product. If you have used this, please come up with your experience.

To update your blog when you travel, you need a good software. I just downloaded an application from the app store called BlogWriter and doing this post using the application.
I have been using BlogPress which is excellent but I face a problem when creating thumbnails for my theme. I need to check if this helps me.

I recently got an Omnia i900 when I was in India. It cost me INR 31,000. It runs on Windows mobile 6.1. I had read some reviews before buying this. I am very much upset buying this phone for many reasons. The battery is very bad. It does not last for my 1 day use. You cannot expect a user to carry the charger when he is using the phone. I have used many Windows Mobile devices like the O2, HTC, HP, but they all gave me 1 and half day battery without any problems. The Rom I am using is Sep 2008 version. I was checking for an updated Rom for this phone, but I could not find a download for Indian version, so I assume that its the latest Rom.

I was using iPhone for some time and have experienced the touch feature of iPhone. The touch and scroll feature of iPhone cannot be compared with that of this Omnia. It comes no way near it. The resolution or the visibility is  very poor. There are lots of thing that really bugs me about this phone. Biggest thing I hate about this phone is they have tried their best to make the user use thing phone without the stylus buy providing option for custom keyboard, bigger menu, etc, but its impossible to use this phone without the stylus. iPhone is made to use with your fingers and it is excellent. Do you know that you need to hang the stylus with your phone in Omnia as there is no slot like the other phones to keep your stylus, its really buggy.

Reviews on different popular website never mentioned about these things. I feel the reviews are influenced by the manufacturers. Some sites had some negative opinion but the pros were more than the cons. The pros what I have seen in this phone is the camera, 5 mega pixels and the storage, 8GB. The processor seems to be good and GPS is also working fine. The usability is not upto the expectation, but a first time pocket pc user may be happy with this. If you are a regular user of a windows mobile pocket pc or an iPhone, I am sure you will not be happy.

If you know any latest Rom update for Omnia i900 for the Indian Version, please let me know and also share your experience if you are an Omnia user. There are lots of new phones coming up with better usability features and touch experience like the Toshiba TG01. iPhone has excellent touch feature, but again that has some restrictions like the copy and paste feature, SMS forwarding, Email with attachments, but when we look into the usability, its much better.

MTNL, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited has launched the first 3G service in India. I was watching cellguru on NDTV, which had some officials from MTNL explaining about the newly launched service. The connectivity speed is upto 2Mbps which should give excellent browsing speed, video calls and other interesting service is the IPTV. You can watch about 30 popular TV channels on your 3G phone. They have tested the service on iPhone, Omnia and they are very much satisfied with it. Currently they are covering Connaught Place, Sanchar Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate, and Minto Road.

I am not aware when others like Airtel, Vodafone will start 3G, but surely it will not take much time for them to enter the market. There was a delay in getting the Government clearance to start this service. BSNL is also coming up with 3G service very soon. If the service is affordable to a common cell phone user, surely there will lots of users going for this and the market for 3G devices will shoot up as India is a very potential market. The wide usage of this service will also depend on the applications that will be available to the users.

I came across an excellent keyboard for my iPhone today, the ShapeWriter keyboard from ShapeWriter Inc which has totally different concept. You have to move your fingers on the keyboard to write a word. Its very easy and I am using this now. In iPhone the restriction make is unable to use as the default keyboard, but you can type notes and send emails using this keyboard. ShapeWriter Keyboard is available for iPhones, Windows Mobile, Google Android and Tablet PC. It costs US$ 9.99 for iPhone and US$19.99 for Windows Mobile. Unless iPhone unlocks the usage will be limited.

Toshiba is coming up with a great phone with Windows Mobile 6.1. This phone is designed somewhat like iPhone. I am not sure how near it is with the iPhone’s touch feature. I have used many Windows based Mobiles but cannot compare with the touch feature of iPhone. iPhone falls back because it does not have copy paste feature, forward SMS, attachments for email, video camera by default.

Eset my favorite virus protection software has released an anti virus software for pocket pc. There are lots of pocket pc users and I am sure very few are using antivirus, but now the threat of getting your Pocket PC infected with Malware is high these days, you should be having a protection enabled for your Hand held device. I have not yet used it, but I have been using the Windows version for my laptop for some years now and I have to admit that this is the best.

Eset Mobile version will protect your device detecting and cleaning known and unknown malwares. It will use 400kb of space and 1mb of memory while scanning. Recently I  have been receiving spam SMS sent through the web and this tool will Filter unwanted text messages to the spam folder with simple rules. You can download the 1 month trial version before you buy.

If you are planning to by a Pocket PC phone, or PDA, then you can for just Rs 10,000. The phone will have features like internet, Push Mail, Calendar, task, same like a blackberry. The phone is to launched by Reliance communications. The phone is branded as RCom.

A US based company has designed the phone and its manufactured in China. Business people will be using PDA , but I feel that its something which everybody can use and once you are used to using pocket PC, then its very difficult to switch to a ordinary phone. In India very less people are using such kind of phones. The success of the product will really depend on the quality and efficiency of the phone. I have been using Windows mobile for the past 5 years and I have used about 6 models. The latest one is HTC Tytn II which is the best I have used which has an excellent processor and memory. I am not aware of the configuration of the phone what RCom is going to market, but if its low configuration then the user will face problems like getting stuck and some memory problems.

I have been using mobile phones for the past 10 years and have understood and faced the advantages and disadvantages of using a mobile phone. Mobile phones are used by almost everybody these days. When you meet a new person or when you have a new friend, one the information that you take from that person is his / her mobile phone number.

Using mobile phones has lots of advantages and disadvantages and most you will be aware of that. Earlier days, when we are out of home or office, we need to search for a public telephone booth to make a phone call, but now, just pick up your mobile phone and dial. I am trying to list the Pros and cons of using a mobile phone in this post.

Advantages of using a mobile phone

Always connected

You are always connected, anybody who knows your mobile number can contact you. If you are travelling out of your territory or to another country, you can use the roaming facility to be connected anywhere and all the time. You can can use features like Text messaging to send messages, receive messages, send greetings, MMS for sending pictures, get information like news, flight timings and many more features

Internet Access

Now most of the mobile phone service providers has GPRS or EDGE or 3G enabled network. You can using internet anytime and anywhere. If you need to check your mail, you can do that when you are travelling or out of your office. You can reply to important messages or emails from your mobile phone itself. Features like Microsoft Exchange and Blackberry are really great. When you receive an email at your server, you get it pushed to your mobile phone. Latest PDA’s, or iPhone are not just mobile phones, you even term it as Mobile Office. I get all my mails pushed to my HTC TyTN II. Even if I am travelling, I am always aware of the important messages and I can respond quickly with out entering my office. I use remote desktop with my Pocket PC using wifi connections, through which I can access all my office desktop computers from anywhere in the World. There is an excellent service called Logmein, which is something I have been using for long time. Other excellent feature of mobile internet is that you can use internet sharing to using internet on your laptop while you are travelling. Just connect your PDA or pocket pc or your mobile phone with GPRS or EDGE or 3G internet and use it on your laptop. Other features like bluetooth, infrared are something very much I use. I do post articles using my mobile phone which is something I really need badly.

Other features like calendars, contacts, task, reminders are really something which cannot be missed. Once you use these kind of features, it will be very difficult to mange your day without a mobile phone.

Disadvantages of using a Mobile Phone

Always Connected

I mentioned this as an advantage above, but that’s a big disadvantage too. You are always connected to the world, you are always responsible for answering a phone call or if you are using a Blackberry or a Windows Mobile 5.0, you get emails which you need to respond instantly because your company or your clients expects this from you. You may not really understand the ill side of this, but your family or kids will feel this much more. If you are on a vacation and you are roaming, your office expects you to reply to the emails or the phone calls that you receive on your mobile. You lose your privacy, your freedom to be free from your daily routine work when you are connected.

Health Hazard

Using mobile phones for long time are definitely bad for health. The radiation caused by Mobile phones are of concern and experts believe that its bad for health.

Using mobile phones are very important in today’s world, but we need to make sure that we get enough freedom and time to spend with our family and make sure we don’t overuse to spoil our health
