The austerity measures suggested by Mr. Prananb Mukherjee should not end as publicity stunt of the political dynasty. Austerity drive should start from top level rather than from the base. Most of the politicians are still clinging to the power to enjoy the comforts in life at the cost of the public. We cannot simply say that austerity is implemented by asking some of the Ministers or leaders fly in economy class. Rather stop ministers from going abroad for medical check ups or treatment, allotting official vehicles for the use of their family members, renovating or refurnishing  their villas or accompanying fleet of vehicles as part of the security etc.. Whether the austerity drive will end up as a political fashion show or a publicity stunt of the UPA government, the fact to be remembered is that each penny they are using is paid by the commoner or the public and it is the hard earned  money by sweating the blood and should be priced high.

What is austerity?

It is the reduced availability of luxuries. It is a kind of strict discipline on the financial expenditure. Normally implemented during the rigid financial crisis. The concept is very glamorous in the present scenario of economic recession.

If the austerity drive is successfully followed by all, it saves crores of the Government expenditure.

ATM of ICICI bank in Powai in Mumbai dispensed Rs 0 notes to a customer. The notes were genuine as it was confirmed by the ICICI bank officials and they assured the customer that the notes will be replaced after doing the required enquiry.

Make sure that you check the notes that you get from any ATM and keep the withdrawal slip with you.

On further inspection, Gupta and Kumble realised that the discrepancy was in the notes printed in serial numbers 4FB962449 to 53. All the other security watermarks on the currency, including the value of the denomination printed in words, were intact.

26/11 trial begun today, 17th April, 2009 at special high security Mumbai prison.  Ajmal Qasab’s lawyer, Abbas Kazmi  put in plea to retract his confession on the grounds  that his confession was not done voluntarily but forced out of him. But the confession made before Magistrate is  legal. Lawyer Abbas Kazmi said Qasab was tortured into confession.  Ujjwal Nikham is the special public prosecutor for the case. Prosecution said the terrorist planned to capture J&K. On the Day 1 the  Prosecution will  present the  case to the court, lay out facts behind 26/11 and conclude the charges against the accused. The defense lawyer said Qasab is a juvenile but the Prosecution replied that Qasab is a liar and he is above 21 years old. Till date Qasab looked casual and smiling but today he looked very serious as well as not smiling, may be because earlier he did not know what to do without a lawyer and now he is confident that he can plan for something with his lawyer. Qasab will plead not guilty.

Anjali Waghmare, the lawyer appointed to defend the case of 26/11 accused, Ajmal Qasab has been removed by the court since she is handling one of the witnesses of the case. Her assistant will take over the case. The court’s view is  that Qasab is a foreign national here with no family. It is the responsibility of the court to provide true legal aid free and fair trial to him. The trial was to begin today starting around 2.30 pm but postponed and trial  likely to start  on Friday.  He is brought to the court arranged inside the Arthour Road Jail. He was fidgety  smiling. On the removal the lawyer, Qasab requested for a lawyer from Pakistan. Tomorrow the court will decide who will be the lawyer for defending Qasab in the court.

Terror struck Assam thrice  today in 5 hours. One is in the capital city of Assam, Guwahati and the other is in  Dhekiajuli on a bicycle , close to Tezpur near northern Assam. First blast is in the Maligaon area  Guwahati, 8 killed  and 24 injured and reported  7 killed and more than 54 injured in the second blast. Several vehicles and two wheelers caught fire in Guwahati immediately after the explosion. DIG G P Singh said the exact toll would be ascertained only after the rescue operations were complete.

The explosions triggered by suspected ULFA militants at Maligaon in Guwahati and Dhekiajuli in northern Assam. ULFA regularly resorts to such blasts in the state on the eve of their founding day as a show of strength.

Airport Authority of India has issued a circular advises anti-hijack and anti-sabotage. AAI circular says that 30 young Fidayeen has already entered India over a period of time at the age of 20’s. Ihe group includes 6-7 trained pilots and young girls. AAI confirmed the news and issued circulars requesting to revising the security measures even though the Union Home minister denied the rumours about the attack by the Fidayeen girls.

Akshay Kumar unbuttoned his Jeans at LEVIS show titled “LIVE UNBUTTONED” during the Lakme  Fashion Week in Mumbai. Now the city police is conducting an inquiry in to Akshay’s alleged obscene act in public after receiving a compliant from a person called Anil Nair. If the inquiry finds Akshay as well as the organizers guilty, then the police will register a case against them.

On Monday, mid-way between his ramp walk, Akshay Kumar walked towards his wife Twinkle Khanna  who was seated in the front row and allegedly asked her to unbutton his jeans during the fashion show.

Akshay said for him ‘unbuttoned’ is not an act but an attitude.  Many people might feel embarrassed watching the whole episode, but Akshay says that it was very easy for him and he enjoyed doing all that. "It was great fun. I enjoyed it very much. It’s great to be unbuttoned by your wife," said the actor. 

The Meghalaya Police cracked a terror plot to assassinate the BJP leader L. K.  Advani with the arrest of one Muslim youth who has allegedly send a terror mail to him.

“We have vowed to kill Advani on his visit to Shillong on 29th Sept. We have already convened a meeting of field commanders to decide as to how revenge could be taken,” said the email, sent from the ID alihussainbadr@rediffmail.com, and was claimed to be from Ali Hussain Badr, a “field commander” of the IM in the northeast. 

Minister for Home affairs, Mr. D. Chidambaram met L.K Advani today morning and renewed the security along with other 39 leaders.

Anjali will be provided with Z security by the Mumbai Police 24 hours a day at her work place as well as her residence. Anjali will be assisted by KP Pawar, lawyer appointed by Mumbai Court.

In India, security is provided to the high risk individuals by the government and the police department. Depending on the degree of risk involved, security is divided into 4 categories, Z+, Z, X and y. In Z security, it covers 22 security personnel from Delhi Police or the India Tibetan Border Force or CRPF and one escort car.
