The average advisor’s day is jam packed with a litany of tasks including servicing client accounts, attending sales meetings, tracking the stock market and calling on sales leads. While these financial professionals are often well compensated for taking on this hectic lifestyle, the long hours and volume of duties are also a major reason why the burnout rate in the financial industry is so high.

To be clear, there’s nothing that an advisor can do to eliminate these duties. In fact, the more successful an advisor becomes, the busier his or her schedule will be. Even so, by implementing better time management techniques, there is a way to reduce stress levels and to make the day more productive.
To that end, the following are some tips meant to help advisors better manage their workdays.

Get up early

What a broker or advisor does in the morning sets the tone for the day. That’s why the most successful advisors wake up early and address personal issues before they come to work. They fix things around the house, make personal phone calls, have their morning coffee, get a haircut and take care of all of the little things that would otherwise distract them during the work day.

They also read, watch programs such as CNBC, peruse The Wall Street Journal or the Investor’s Business Daily and make themselves aware of what’s going on in the international markets and on the domestic front that could have an impact on the day’s market action. Alternately, others might use this time to organize a call list so they’ll know which clients they’re going to phone throughout the day.

In short, don’t just roll out of bed and come to work. Be productive so that when you come into the office, you’re ready to hit the ground running.

Utilize your travel

Use your traveling time to your advantage. Read the latest issues of BusinessWeek, Forbes or Fortune, or listen to a cassette about becoming a better salesperson. Your local bookstore is full of them! Again, the key is to do something so that when you are at work, you can focus on garnering new clients and servicing existing ones.

Another idea: If you haven’t already done so, plan your day. Figure out what amount of time you are going to dedicate to prospecting, to servicing existing client accounts and to furthering your education. Again, the more prep work you do now, the less stressed you’ll be when you enter the office.

Contact earlier

Some advisors fritter away their day, preferring to wait until the evening hours to contact their clients. This is often a mistake because when people get home from work, they’re either too tired or too busy with personal matters to talk business. In fact, even if you do get a hold of them, they aren’t going to stay on the phone any longer than they have to, much less listen to your long-winded sales pitch.
In addition, if you think about it, it’s nearly impossible to fit in all of the calls that you need to make to be a successful advisor during the evening hours. It simply leaves too little time to build relationships, sell your products or talk to more than a handful of clients or prospects.
The solution: call clients at work. Many clients won’t mind – after all, it’s their money, they worked hard for it and they want to be reassured that their investments are in good hands. Your call will serve that purpose. So call early, and call often.

Find time to get potential clients

Once a broker or advisor establishes a client base, he or she often neglects to prospect for other clients. This is also a mistake. For example, if you were to lose your top two or three accounts because someone died, moved or simply wanted to liquidate their securities holdings to buy real estate, you’d probably see your fee payments or commission runs drop dramatically, right? This is precisely why you need to prospect and to have a constant influx of new customers.
With that in mind, if you are so busy that no matter how you reformat your schedule you can’t squeeze in prospecting, consider hiring a cold caller. In fact, if you are a top producer, your firm will probably be glad to provide you with one. If not, consider tapping an intern or a local college student to generate potential sales leads.

Use lunch time

Brokers and advisors are notorious for taking long lunches. But instead of frequenting the local watering hole, consider reading during lunch. Better yet, use the time to exchange sales ideas with your co-workers, or to familiarize yourself with your firm’s research reports. Yet, another idea is to kill two birds with one stone and meet a client or a prospective client over lunch.

Everyone needs to eat, but spending an hour or two away from the office every day will not only make you less productive, it may also have an adverse impact on your money line or commission run.

When the stock exchange closes at 4pm EST most brokers and advisors get up from their desks, chat with their colleagues, and generally pass time until 5:30 or 6pm when they start calling their clients at home.

This is a mistake. Use this hour to your advantage! Call on businesses before they close for the day, or call your clients before they go home from work for the day. Or simply review the day’s trades and catch up on some paperwork. Again, many advisors waste this hour. Don’t fall into this trap.
Fit as much as you can into a day, but don’t exceed your limits. While working late can make you money, it can also lead to burnout. To avoid this, a good method is to come up with a list of activities in the morning that should be completed during the day. Then, once that list is completed, go home! Spend time with your family. Relax. Remember, being an advisor is akin to running a marathon, not a sprint. So pace yourself.

Being a broker or an advisor is tough work. In this field, time management skills aren’t a luxury – they’re a necessity in order to increase efficiency and to ultimately succeed.

The new stimulus package from President Obama has created worries for the Indians working in America. According to Troubled Assets Relief Programme (TRAP), the companies who have received the bail out package will have to follow the strict conditions to hire people who are under H-1B visas. According to the new bill the companies will still be able to hire H-1B visa holders, but must comply with the H-1B dependent employer rules which include attesting to actively recruiting American workers; not displacing American workers with H-1B visa holders; and not replacing laid off American workers with foreign workers.
The companies must comply with the H-1B dependent employer rules which include attesting to actively recruiting American workers; not displacing American workers with H-1B visa holders; and not replacing laid off American workers with foreign workers.
This will impact the hiring of Indians especially in the IT sector. There are currently 570,000 Indians who are issued H-B1 visa and other non-immigrant visas.
This bill will certainly effect the Indians working in the US but may not effect the outsourcing of jobs to India. This bill will certainly effect the un-employment in countries India and China expecting many Indians who are working in the US to lose their jobs. But this might have negative impact if they have to be replaced by the un-employed Americans and they will be losing the chances of importing more talented people. Other side of this is that this could bring an end to brain-drain problem because we find great Indians, IITians working in the US.

I thought of compiling some useful information for this purpose in this regard.

There are lots of people who are searching for Medical Jobs, Resort Jobs in Maldives and there are some potential for this. Before taking up a job in Maldives, you should be aware of the working conditions in Maldives, accommodation in Maldives, cost of living, etc. There are many resorts in Maldives, so the chances of getting a job in Hotel Industry is very high if you have the required qualification and experience. There are very high class resorts like Four Seasons, Laanda Giravaaru, Irufushi, One and Only Reethirah, Kanuhura, Bandos, Hilton, W Maldives, Shangri-la and many more new resorts coming up (about 90).

The best way to find a Job in a resort is to browse through the official websites of these resorts and send an email to the Human Resources Department of the Resort. This will be a direct recruitment and you will not need to pay any charges to any recruitment agencies.

I found this interesting website, where there are lots of Jobs Posted Regularly

Please do not contact me for any Jobs, I am not a recruiting agent or don’t work for any recruitment company. I work in Maldives and I share my experience here to help my readers and people who are looking forward to work in Maldives.

I have been working in the Maldives for the past 6 years now. When ever I talk to people when I am in India about Maldives, I find most of them are not aware of this country. I see some advantages for me to work in Maldives rather than any other country like the US or the Gulf countries.

My Employer – I have been working for the same employer since I came to Maldives. I have a really nice employer who always appreciates my work and the freedom given to me at work is something rare. Appraisals are done periodically and we work as a team here. There is no bossing or any kind of harassment at work.

Near to my Home Town – I live in Kerala and there are two flights everyday from Male’ to Trivandrum and one flight to Bangalore every day. I never felt that I am far from my home. I can travel to my home in hours as the flying time is just one hour to Trivandrum and about two hours to Bangalore. I visit India at least 3-4 times a year so I never feel that I am away from my home.

Tax Free Income – There is no tax in Maldives and I have a NRI status in India, so I get all my earnings compared to highly paid professionals in India where they need to pay about 30% as income tax. Now a days the US$ is getting good conversion rate for the Indian Rupees.

These are some advantages of Working in Maldives, but this is not true for all the expatriates working in Maldives. There are different factors which decides the advantages depending upon the employer, which is the key fact and other factors could be the type of contract and the country you are from

I had wrote a post on jobs in Maldives last month as I was in need from candidates for my company. I got good response and in fact I could fill up all the vacancies in no time. I am writing this post to help job seekers who would like to work in Maldives. There are about 50,0000 expatriates working in the Maldives and I see individuals from more than 40 countries working here. The majority are from India, Srilanka, Philippines, Bangladesh.

There are chances of Jobs in Maldives in different industries here

Tourism and Hotel Industries

There are about 90 resorts in Maldives and 10-15 new resorts coming up soon. If you are qualified in this industry, you can surely get a job. The salaries are good if you are working for a good resort. I have heard that there are resorts where the service charges itself come to nearly US$1000 per month. I am not in a position to give the contact details of all the resorts now. I will surely post if I come across any vacancies. I would like to tell you that there is new resort coming up in May 2008, Shangri-La where the staff strength is around 650 and the salaries are excellent. You can send your resume to

Usually the foreigners working here are on 1 year contract, which may or may not be renewed. They have vacancies for Nurses, Consultants, Medical officers, laboratory technicians, radiographers, etc. Usually they announce this in major news papers and they have recruiting agents who take care of their requirements. You will have to pay the prescribed fees to the agents if you are going through them. There are lots of direct recruitment going on here, so just send your resume to the HR department.

Teaching

There are more than 1000 foreign teachers working here in Maldives. There are lots of schools in Maldives and the number of vacancies are very high. You may have to work in some remote islands, and if you are lucky, you may get a job in Male’ , the capital of Maldives. If you are working in Male’, you can earn good by taking tutions. Majority of the teachers earn, 2-3 times the amount they get as their fixed salary. In islands, you do not get this earnings, but you will be getting island allowance, which does not really compensate the income from tutions

Construction

There are a lot of requirement in construction field as there are lots of new projects coming up and existing projects. Lots of new multi-storied buildings coming up, so the chances for job in this field are high. There are lots of construction companies in Maldives

For recruitment, most of the companies and institutions depend on Man power suppliers, but you can apply directly also. I have seen that many take the risk of coming to Maldives as a tourist, attend to different interviews, get a job, go back and enter with the work permit.
