I just moved to a new place and for using internet I need to connect to a wireless router which is on a different floor. I was getting very weak signal and I was unable to use internet the way I wanted to use. The page loading was very low and I was not not at all happy to work with this connection. I was searching for something that could boost the signals and after googling I found that using external wifi antenna will be helpful.
I went to a shop and got an external wifi antenna which can be connected to a usb port of my laptop. You need to install the drivers for this to work and it really works.
Other factors that may effect the reception of signals are like if you have mirrors that will effect the wifi signals
I found some interesting information to boost wifi signals

try changing the channel of the wireless signal in the router from the default channel 6 to 1 or 11 if it is your home or office wi fi setup
Be as close to the router as possible
Its line of sight basically although a lot of the signal reception is the bounce around
The router should be high and uncluttered
Stay away from metal doors , metal pipes ,aquariums and full metal filing cabinets in the path
Often just moving the laptop over a foot or two will make all the difference in the world
