Air Sahara Effect On Maldives

Maldives is a country very near to India, just 55 minutes fly from Trivandrum International Airport. I have been traveling from Maldives to India quite frequently for the past four years. Indian Airlines was the only operator for this sector. It was sort of Monopoly for them till Air Sahara started operating daily flights few months back. People living in places like Cochin had to again travel, after they get down at the Trivandrum International Airport. Now they can continue the same flight till Cochin, Nedumbasheri International Airport.

One of my colleague who hails from Kochi, traveled 10 days back in Air Sahara. I spoke to him two days back and asked about his flight home. He said, it was better if he got down at Trivandrum and traveled by a local train to Cochin. If he travels, by local train from Trivandrum, he reaches at about 8 pm, by Air Sahara, he reached at 10pm. It seams the flight was held up at Trivandrum for 5 hours instead of scheduled half an hour. Last week I heard that the flight was canceled. Two day back one of my colleague traveled by Air Sahara and she reached Male’ at 10 pm instead of 1.30 pm. She screamed, no more Air Sahara.

I am traveling next month to India, I am not going for Air Sahara for sure, from the experience that I have heard from friends. I think Indian Airlines is doing well at least the flights go and come on time.

I read that Jet Airways has taken over Air Sahara and hopefully the services will be improved in future. In fact there is a need of two operator or at least two flights a day to India. From Male’ Sri-Lankan Airlines is operating 3 flights a day and more people are now traveling to Colombo than to India for their requirements. India should make sure that they maintain at least two flights a day to Trivandrum so that people in Maldives can use the facilities in India more than from Sri-Lanka. During the School Vacation period the flights are really full and we cannot get a seat for many days. I had experienced this problem many times as I cannot plan my travel months before. I had to use a long route, Male’ – Colombo – Trivandrum when there is an emergency.

So let us see what Air-Sahara do?
