I have been working in the Maldives for the past 6 years now. When ever I talk to people when I am in India about Maldives, I find most of them are not aware of this country. I see some advantages for me to work in Maldives rather than any other country like the US or the Gulf countries.
My Employer – I have been working for the same employer since I came to Maldives. I have a really nice employer who always appreciates my work and the freedom given to me at work is something rare. Appraisals are done periodically and we work as a team here. There is no bossing or any kind of harassment at work.
Near to my Home Town – I live in Kerala and there are two flights everyday from Male’ to Trivandrum and one flight to Bangalore every day. I never felt that I am far from my home. I can travel to my home in hours as the flying time is just one hour to Trivandrum and about two hours to Bangalore. I visit India at least 3-4 times a year so I never feel that I am away from my home.
Tax Free Income – There is no tax in Maldives and I have a NRI status in India, so I get all my earnings compared to highly paid professionals in India where they need to pay about 30% as income tax. Now a days the US$ is getting good conversion rate for the Indian Rupees.
These are some advantages of Working in Maldives, but this is not true for all the expatriates working in Maldives. There are different factors which decides the advantages depending upon the employer, which is the key fact and other factors could be the type of contract and the country you are from

Hi there,This is Swaroop here frm Kerala. I did my 2yrs Advanced Diploma in Switzerland in Hotel Management and have a ttl of 3 yrs Europe+USA+Qatar work experience. Do you think that i will be able to find a hotel job in Maldives easier. I would love to work over there if i had a chance. ThanksSwaroop
I dont agree with this.This country is not good for doctors .There is lot of discriminationsagainst them .Despite of giving their valuable services these doctors are harassed and humiliated by hospital management.Their treatment towords doctors is very inhumen.They treat them as their bonded labourer.This holds true even for those doctors who work under Ministry Of Health.If you are a doctor, you work anywhere else but do not come to this place for the job.
