I have written written this post for Wordpress CMS because I have been using this for my blog and I find Wordpress is the most widely used open source tool for blogging. I would suggest to make customization for your blog using plugins rather than making any changes in the core files. Reason being, when you upgrade your Wordpress installation will overwrite all you customization.
